What you can use vs what we operate
Some kit is there to help customers move into storage more easily. Some kit is operated by Brown Box staff only, because forklifts and “having a quick go” are how paperwork breeds.

All equipment use is subject to availability, item size, item weight, access, condition and suitability. Forklift use is staff-operated only.
Frequently asked questions
Do you have trolleys customers can use?
Yes. We have handling kit on site to make moving into storage easier, including trolleys for suitable boxes, tubs, smaller furniture and general move-in loads.
Availability depends on what is being moved and what kit is already in use, because sadly the trolleys have not yet learned to clone themselves.
Can I use the trolleys myself?
Usually, yes, for suitable items and sensible use around the facility. Ask a member of the Brown Box team when you arrive and we’ll point you in the right direction.
Please do not overload them, race them, or use them as a personality test.
Do you have pump trucks or pallet trucks?
Yes, we can help with suitable palletised stock or business deliveries using pump trucks / pallet trucks, subject to access, load condition and suitability.
If your pallet looks like it was stacked during an earthquake, we may need to have a proper look before moving it.
Can customers use the pump trucks?
Possibly by arrangement, depending on the load, access and situation. Some handling kit is suitable for customer use, and some may need Brown Box staff involved.
If in doubt, ask us first. It saves damage, delay and the traditional “I thought it would be fine” speech.
Can I use the forklift myself?
No. The forklift is operated by authorised Brown Box staff only.
That is not us being awkward. It is basic safety, insurance and common sense doing their boring but necessary little dance.
What can the forklift help with?
The forklift may be suitable for heavier, palletised or awkward deliveries, subject to item size, weight, access, ground conditions and suitability.
It must be arranged in advance. Please do not turn up with something enormous and assume we can magically lift it because “it looked alright on Facebook Marketplace.”
Can Brown Box accept a delivery if i'm not there?
Yes, we may be able to accept suitable deliveries by prior arrangement and written authorisation.
We’ll need clear delivery details, your unit details, contact information and instructions before anything arrives. Mystery deliveries are not a business model. They are a headache wearing a label.
Can you put deliveries straight into my storage unit?
Where suitable and agreed in advance, yes. We may be able to place items into your storage unit or into an agreed secure outdoor yard area.
This depends on access, item size, packaging, handling method and available space.
Can you help me unload my van?
We can usually help make unloading easier with trolleys and handling kit on site. For heavier or awkward items, speak to us before you arrive so we can advise what is realistic.
If you need collection from your home, workplace or seller, our Man & Van service may be the better route.
Do I need to book handling help in advance?
For simple trolley use, usually not. For pump truck help, forklift help, delivery acceptance or anything heavy, awkward or palletised, yes, book it in advance.
The more we know upfront, the less your move-in turns into an improvised circus.
Is handling equipment included with storage?
Basic move-in equipment may be available for customers using the facility, subject to availability and suitability. Forklift help, delivery acceptance, staff assistance or special handling may need to be arranged separately.
Check with us before booking if your storage move depends on specific kit.
What items are not suitable for handling?
We may refuse to move or handle items that are unsafe, overloaded, unstable, leaking, contaminated, poorly packed, too heavy, too large, or unsuitable for the available access and equipment.
If it looks like it might damage the building, the kit, your goods, our staff or everyone’s mood, we’ll stop and review it.
Forklift use is operated by Brown Box staff only. Delivery acceptance and placement is available by prior arrangement and written authorisation.
