How Moving Into Brown Box Storage Works

Moving into storage should be simple. At Brown Box Storage in Tamworth, we keep the process clear from the first enquiry to move-in day: choose your room, reserve it with your refundable deposit, set up your account, sort goods protection, then pay your first month’s rent when you move in.

No mystery charges. No quarterly rent hike games. No wandering around wondering what happens next.

Before you move in

The money bit, without the mystery.

Here’s how the usual Brown Box move-in payment process works: pay your refundable deposit to reserve your room, then pay your first month’s rent when you move in. Simple, which is suspiciously rare these days.

1

1 month refundable deposit

Your deposit is paid first and can reserve your storage room for up to 2 weeks. It is refundable, subject to your account and agreement.

2

1 month’s rent upfront

Your first month’s rent is usually taken on the day you move in. Storage rent is then paid monthly in advance.

3

Goods protection

Goods protection is required while your items are in storage. We can provide this when setting up your subscription.

4

Any agreed extras

This could include packing materials, Man & Van help, handling support or other arranged services.

Rent date Rent is paid monthly in advance, usually on the same day of the month as your move-in date.
Payment details Brown Box does not store your payment details. Online payments are handled through Stora and Stripe.
Rent reviews Rent is reviewed once a year and any increase is linked to CPIH inflation, in line with your storage agreement.
Plain English version: pay your refundable deposit to reserve the room, pay your first month’s rent when you move in, set up goods protection, and you’re ready to store. No quarterly rent hike games. No payment-detail weirdness. No admin fog machine.
Step by step

The Brown Box move-in process

From first enquiry to putting your stuff in the room, here’s how moving into Brown Box Storage works. Clear, simple, and mercifully free from corporate fog.

1

Check prices or get in touch

Start by checking storage prices online or contacting us if you need help choosing the right room. If you’re not sure what size you need, don’t guess wildly like storage is a fairground game.

2

Choose your storage room

Pick the room that suits what you need to store. You can use our size calculator, room size guide, or ask us for a sensible steer before booking.

3

Reserve your room

Once you’ve chosen your room, reserve it and confirm your move-in date. Your room is confirmed once the booking, agreement and payment setup are completed.

4

Complete your details

We’ll need your contact details, billing details, emergency contact, storage agreement acceptance and goods protection setup before move-in.

5

Pay your refundable deposit

You’ll usually pay 1 month’s rent as a refundable deposit to reserve your room for up to 2 weeks. Your first month’s rent is usually taken on move-in day.

6

Set up goods protection

Goods protection is required while your items are in storage. Brown Box can provide this when setting up your storage subscription.

7

Set up rent payments

Rent is paid monthly in advance, usually on the same day of the month as your move-in date. Online payments are handled through Stora and Stripe.

8

Plan move-in day

Tell us when you’re arriving, what vehicle you’re using, and whether you need boxes, trolleys, Man & Van help, forklift support or delivery acceptance.

9

Move in and lock up

Arrive, unload, store your items, lock your room and keep control of your space. Storage sorted. Civilisation survives another day.

The useful bits

Deposits, payments, protection and move-in prep

The stuff customers actually want to know before moving in. Not thrilling, granted, but very handy when you’re trying to avoid awkward surprises and admin-shaped misery.

Section 4

How the refundable deposit works

We usually take a refundable deposit equal to 1 month’s rent. This is normally paid first and can reserve your storage room for up to 2 weeks.

When you move out, we check that your account is clear, the room has been emptied, there are no outstanding charges and the room has been left in line with your storage agreement.

  • Deposit is usually equal to 1 month’s rent
  • Held while your storage subscription is active
  • Checked against unpaid charges or damage
  • Returned in line with your storage agreement
Plain English: refundable does not mean “ignore the agreement and still get everything back”. It means refundable subject to the account being clear and the room being left properly. Tiny difference. Massive future argument avoided.
Section 5

How rent and payments work

Storage rent is paid monthly in advance. Your first month’s rent is usually taken on the day you move in.

After that, rent is usually due on the same day of the month as your move-in date. So if you move in on the 12th, your rent is usually due on the 12th each month.

  • First month’s rent usually taken on move-in day
  • Rent paid monthly in advance
  • Monthly rent date usually matches your move-in date
  • Cash or Direct Debit can be arranged where suitable
Payment security: Brown Box does not store your payment details. Online payments are handled securely through Stora and Stripe, because apparently keeping card details in a dusty drawer is frowned upon now.
Section 6

Clear, fair rent reviews

At Brown Box Storage, we keep rent reviews simple. We do not increase rent every quarter.

Rent is reviewed once a year and any increase is linked to CPIH inflation, in line with your storage agreement.

  • No quarterly rent increase games
  • Reviewed once a year
  • Linked to CPIH inflation
  • You’ll be told before any rent change takes effect
No surprise jumps: we’ll always tell you before any rent change takes effect. Radical stuff, this “clear communication” idea. Someone should tell the rest of civilisation.
Section 7

Goods protection is required

Goods protection is required while your items are in storage. Brown Box can provide this when setting up your storage subscription.

If you already have suitable cover elsewhere, speak to us before moving in so we can confirm what is needed.

  • Required while your goods are in storage
  • Can be provided during subscription setup
  • Helps protect the items you store
  • Existing suitable cover can be discussed before move-in
Important: we call it goods protection because that is what it is. Not “magic stuff safety”, not “probably fine”, and not “hope nothing happens”.
Section 8

What to bring on move-in day

A little planning makes move-in day much easier. Turning up with a van full of chaos and no tape is technically a plan, just not a good one.

1Booking confirmation
2ID, if requested
3Payment confirmation if paying separately
4Your lock, if supplying your own
5Boxes or storage tubs
6Tape and marker pens
7Furniture covers or dust sheets
8Help for awkward or heavy items
9A rough plan for what goes in first and last
Sending deliveries? Speak to us first if you’re sending couriers, pallets or deliveries to Brown Box. Surprise pallets are not the charming little gift people think they are.

Ready to move in without the drama?

Check prices, use the size calculator, or contact Brown Box if you want a sensible steer before booking.

Before you arrive

Get these sorted first.

Move-in day is much easier when the admin is done before you turn up. Revolutionary, we know. Someone alert the stationery cupboard.

Your storage room is reserved
Your storage agreement is completed
Your move-in payment is ready
Your refundable deposit is paid
Goods protection is arranged
Your move-in date and arrival plan are confirmed
Possible delays

What can slow things down?

Most delays are avoidable. Usually by doing the obvious things before arriving, which is annoying but effective.

  • Booking not completed
  • Payment or deposit not sorted
  • Goods protection not arranged
  • Required details or ID missing
  • Unexpected deliveries, pallets or couriers
  • Unbooked handling, forklift or Man & Van help

How long does it take?

If your room is available and the setup is complete, moving in can be quick and straightforward. The actual time depends on how much you’re storing and how organised the move is.

Bringing a van?

Let us know what you’re arriving in and when. If you need trolleys, help unloading, or Man & Van support, it’s much better arranged before the van doors swing open.

Sending deliveries?

Couriers, pallets and business deliveries need to be arranged with us first. Surprise pallets are not charming. They are just admin wearing hi-vis.

Best rule: get the booking, deposit, goods protection and arrival plan sorted before you come in. Then move-in day is about paying your first month’s rent, moving your stuff, and not trying to untangle admin while holding a roll of tape and questioning your life choices.
